Digital Witness

This was a creative video editing project in which I exclusively used archival and stock footage to illustrate my commentary on our society's craving for digital stimuli. While I love my technology, I think if left unchecked, our consumption habits can lead to a toxic relationship with our devices. This gave me the idea to first combine two opposing songs that discuss addiction, craving, and consumption in different ways ("Digital Witness" by St. Vincent and "Closer" by Nine Inch Nails). I feel that it demonstrates the cognitive dissonance I experience as someone who works in the digital sphere, but who loves unplugging from it all every so often. The differing keys of the songs help set an eerie tone and hectic pace toward the end as well when the melodies start competing even more. It was a fun challenge to search for completely unrelated archival b-roll, and see how they might fit together to form a new story.
